Auto Pet Barriers: Safety, Comfort Convenience

in Pet

Auto pet barriers allow you to keep your pets where they are safest. This ensures that they do not interfere with the driver while protecting everyone in case of an accident. They also allow you to contain pet hair, toys, and other inconveniences to one small area of your vehicle.

There are different types of auto pet barriers on the market, so you select the type that best meets your needs.

Front Seat Pet Barriers

Most pet barriers designed to block a pet's access to the front seat will have a netting design. The nets hang behind the front seats, blocking from the top of the center console up close to the top of the vehicle. This prevents an animal from jumping through the seats to the front or wedging in on top of the center console between the front seats.

There are also some barriers that just block the area between the seats to the ground. They do not extend up toward the top of the vehicle. This is not enough of a barrier for dogs or cats that are able to jump over, but may be a good safety precaution for an older pet that won't jump but may propel forward in an accident.

Hatch Pet Barriers

These auto pet barriers look much like the front seat designs, except they are designed to restrict pet access to the very back of your vehicle. This works best with SUVs and vans which have a larger area in back that can be designated to the pets.

Most of these barriers are designed from netting much like the front seat designs.

Window Pet Barriers

Have you ever tried to drive with a dog's head sticking out of the backseat window? It can be very distracting and potentially dangerous if you have a dog that may try leaping form the window while the vehicle is in motion.

With a window barrier you can roll the window all the way down without worrying about any of this.

The fresh air can delight your dog's nose but there will be no head sticking out the window and no scratching on the door in attempt to get the nose a bit further out into the wind.

Your pet is safely blocked inside the vehicle while wind is still permitted to come in.

Auto Pet Barrier Shopping Tips

Make sure you measure your vehicle and then check against the exact measurements of the pet barriers you would like to purchase. They come in different sizes designed to fit different types of vehicles. Getting the wrong size will mean the barrier does not fit as intended and may not be effective.

Think about how different auto pet barriers will look inside your vehicle as well. Will you leave it up all the time or take it down sometimes? If it is hard to remove then it isn't a good option if you want to take it down for special occasions or when you go to work.

If you will have children in the vehicle with your pets, consider an auto pet barrier that creates a separate compartment in the backseat. This can separate your children from the pets, which is a good idea for long trips.

If you have cats, there may also be special seats or beds that attach to your vehicle's seat so they remain comfortable while well restrained.
